ICM 2026: Munich Airport’s Terminal 1 Expansion Completed

Effective infrastructure development depends on close cooperation between airlines and airports.

At our latest BARIG Infrastructure Committee Munich, the team of Flughafen München provided our airline community with comprehensive updates on current infrastructure developments, as well as ongoing digitalization and automation projects, ensuring transparency and alignment with operational needs.

One focus was on the completion of the new Terminal 1 Pier, which is now ready for operation. Throughout the planning and construction phase, our BARIG Infrastructure Committee closely followed the development of the terminal expansion from the very beginning and provided an important exchange platform between airlines and Munich Airport, discussing sustainable and future‑oriented solutions.

With the official opening of the new Terminal 1 Pier, Flughafen München sends a strong signal for growth, quality, and future readiness.

Key facts at a glance:

  • Capacity expansion of up to 6 million additional passengers per year
  • Clear focus on non‑Schengen traffic, serving around 40 airlines
  • 12 new gates
  • State‑of‑the‑art processes designed for greater comfort and operational efficiency

For airlines, the new pier significantly strengthens operational performance, enhances the passenger experience, and further increases the attractiveness of Munich as a competitive international hub. For more connectivity of Bavaria and Germany as a whole.
